I am Morgan Belak

My artistic journey has been a lifelong exploration of self-expression through drawing and painting. From my earliest memories, art has been an integral part of my life, with high school marking the beginning of my painting endeavors. Throughout this creative odyssey, I have continually evolved my style by channeling my passions, experimenting with various mediums, and solving artistic challenges.

College became a pivotal period, granting me the freedom to delve into life's complexities and hone my artistic identity. Like many, uncertainties about the future and self-doubt crept in. Despite my fervor, my father's skepticism about a viable career in art weighed heavily on me, amplifying my own uncertainties. Eventually, post-college, influenced by someone's opinion on financial stability, I unexpectedly found myself in the Army—an unimaginable detour.

Surprising both my parents and myself, my military journey has spanned sixteen years, during which my artistic endeavors included drawings, oil paintings, and murals in Iraq and Afghanistan—works I presume have been lost to time. It was only recently that I reconnected with a college professor, reigniting my artistic flame and prompting me to confront my dormant passion. Uncertain about where to begin, I enrolled in a figurative drawing class, which not only assuaged my anxiety but also rekindled my artistic skills.

With retirement from the Army looming in four years, I find myself yearning to dedicate the next chapter of my life entirely to art. My desire is to breathe life into the countless paintings that have inhabited my mind for years, giving form to the emotions and stories within them.

Through my journey, I've gleaned essential lessons: perseverance in the face of doubt, the gradual mastery of skills through time and practice, the importance of breaks, and the liberating power of starting afresh. In essence, my story is a testament to the resilience of passion, the transformative nature of skill development, and the acceptance that pauses and new beginnings are intrinsic to the creative process.
